Eyes Glued Shut

I think we all have that desire; we all want to make a difference, for instance, in someone else’s life.  We want to leave our mark.  We really do want to change the world.  I’ve traveled around the world and I’ve seen my fair share of pain and suffering.  I’ve hugged women who have been abandoned by their husbands and left infected with HIV.  I’ve tried to comfort young girls who have been raped.  I rescued babies on the verge of death due to malnutrition. But, sometimes, when I come back and I try to share these stories with people, it’s almost like I see their eyes glaze over.  It’s too much, it’s overwhelming and we start to feel guilty for all the blessings we enjoy and we don’t know what to do with those feelings.  But, if all we do is feel guilty, then we have really missed the point.  The point is this: we’ve each been given something that we can use to change the world.  Some of us do have resources.  Some of us have talents.  Some of us have networks of influence.  And, some of us have great passion. But we all have something that we can use. The question is, “What will you do with what you have been given?”
